TNA in 2012: The Good, The Bad and the Downright Ugly!

Welcome along my last blog on Tie-Up before the Christmas period! Cheers to everyone who commented on my article about Jeff Hardy last week. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who isn't a fan of the Charismatic Liability! Moving on, I figured that this was the best time to do a review of TNA’s 2012 and you can guess from the title I’m gonna be talking about the good, the bad and the downright ugly. I’m not gonna spoil anything here, but TNA have had a far better year overall than WWE. In terms of match quality, storylines, flow of the show and outstanding PPV cards, TNA’s clearly had a fantastic year.

Why I Wouldn't Have Put The TNA World Title Back on Jeff Hardy

What’s up doc? Wait, think I channelled Bugs Bunny there! What I meant to say was, how’s it going folks? Thanks a lot for everyone who took the time to comment on my last TNA article. It’s great to get feedback and create talking points.

For those of you unfamiliar with my work, I try to put across my opinions on the wrestling business. I don’t pretend to be an expert. I’m just a fan with a way to put my point across. I should probably also say that sometimes, I like to be controversial. I’ve been known to stir up some sh*t in my time. A prime example was a rant on one of TNA’s Gutcheck contestants on a recent episode of SLTD Radio. Like it or not, opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one and I’m not someone who’ll hold back in case I offend someone. Mark knows what I’m talking about! Haha..

The IT Factor of Professional Wrestling

Written by: Tie Up Wrestling

Bobby Roode (born Robert F. Roode, Jr) started his professional wrestling career the same way as all wrestlers do, by training at a Pro Wrestling School. Roode was trained by, some say the legend, Sean 'Val Venus' Morley and after just a year of training Roode knew that he was ready for the big time. He made his pro wrestling debut for a Canadian independent in June of 1998; and in the years which followed, between 1998 and 2004, he wrestled for other various promotions around the world including, Peurto Rico, Germany and Japan, and even had several dark matches for the WWE. In 2004 TNA saw something in him and gave him his first 'big' break by singing him to a TNA contract. Why is all of this important? Because this is just the start of, I believe, professional wrestling’s greatest star of recent years.

Did going live have an Impact on TNA?

Welcome to my first blog here on TUW. I've known Mark for a wee while now, so when the chance came up to do some blogs for him, I couldn't refuse, so first, here's a little background on me. I've been a wrestling fan for over 20 years and you might have stumbled across some of my writing before. I’m quite opinionated and not afraid to stir things up, so if that’s the kind of thing you’re into, then good stuff! It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, watch out! Haha…

TNA Presents Turning Point 2012 - Predictions

With Turning Point airing in America tonight, a few of us have got together to give our predictions on what we can see happening during the show. Creative may have nothing for Colt Cabana but we’ve given Phil a packed schedule; therefore he has been a man of few words on this occasion, but what he does say matters.

The State of TNA Address

Written by: Tie Up Wrestling

So, with all the talk of a WWE State of Address going on a few weeks ago, I thought that it would be an interesting idea to address the TNA locker room and give my thoughts on the company. So let's start at the top of the company (show wise) with Hulk Hogan.

AJ Style's Secret

AJ and Dixie

The long running AJ Styles and Dixie Carter storyline has had many twists and turns along the way and I can’t help but feeling even though “the truth” has been revealed there is more to come out of the ‘scandal’.

To recap; at first we thought that Daniels had something on Kazarian as Kaz had seemed reluctant to be around the Fallen Angel; but after AJ cockily laid out a proposition for the rematch which he had called for back in March against Daniels, after Kaz interfered in his match the week before, costing him a win, Kaz no longer looked as though he was forced to be around Daniels; he was willing to be by his side.

Bound for Glory - Hulk Hogan Calls for another Change

Written by: Tie Up Wrestling

Hulk Hogan made an announcement yesterday via Twitter to inform us that the Bound for Glory Series matches will now have a fifteen minute time limit. The limit had previously been ten minutes.

Austin Aries – Option C

Desination X

We all know that “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived” (Not to be confused with Greg from SLTD who is the Greatest Man Who Ever Lived due to copyright infringements), Austin Aries, wants to be a main event star and will do whatever it takes to get there and so Hulk Hogan had a proposition for him.

TNA Impact Wrestling - Bound For Glory Series

BFGS Logo

For the second year in a row TNA is holding the annual point based Bound for Glory (BFG) Series over the summer months and it kicked off on Impact Wrestling on June 14th 2012 with an 11 Man Gauntlet Match, we saw the first match here in the UK on the 17th June. Within this post we hope to tell you how the competition is scored and what has happened so far. Going forward we will keep you updated with who is where on the leader board on a weekly basis.

TNA Presents Slammiversary X

To open the show we were shown highlights from previous Slammiversary events to showcase just some of the unforgettable memories which we all have from 10 years of TNA. Highlights included Kurt Angle head-butting Samoa Joe, Abyss catching fire and Elix Skipper jumping from the top of a steel cage with a Hurricanrana. We were told that the 10 year anniversary spectacular is not just about where the company has been but where it is going. It’s not just about evolution, but revolution. Slammiversary X promises to be a landmark event.

TNA Unfinished Business – Storm vs. Roode

Unfinished Business - Roode vs Storm
Last week TNA announced that they would be launching a new series of one hour shows which would be titled ‘TNA Unfinished Business’. Here in the UK we got to see the first episode last night (13th June 2012) before Slammiversary X aired. If you missed the show you can catch it again on ChallengeTV after Impact Wrestling on Sunday 17th June 2012.

TNA Xplosion - 12th June 2012

This episode of Xplosion began with JB, Jeremy Borash, interviewing Bobby Roode on Impact Wrestling after he was forced to tap out at the hands of Sting during the tag team match which we saw on Sunday 10th June 2012. Roode dismissed his loss and said that he is “the freakin’ World Champion” and nobody can take that away from him; not Sting, Hogan, JB or anybody else, because at Slammiversary he will walk away as a Champion, just as he has done for the last seven months.

Impact Wrestling - 10th June 2012

The show opened in the way which has become the norm in recent weeks on Impact Wrestling with clips of what has happened previously being shown. This week we saw highlights of the Dixie Carter and AJ Styles affair scandal with Kazarian and Christopher Daniels being shocked that Dixie had failed to address the rumours, how they exposed the truth and their plans to exacerbate the situation further live on air.

TNA Slammiversary X - Predictions

Just before I get into my predictions I would like to point out that myself and Greg from SLTD Wrestling have been posting articles on the past Slammiversary events in a countdown to tonight’s show which of course we will see here in the UK on Wednesday 13th 2012.

To have a read over these posts please click this link.

So here are my thoughts on what may or may not happen at Slammiversary X.

TNA Slammiversary IX

Written by: Greg Ledson

Slammiversary IX took place on June 12, 2011 at the Impact Wrestling Zone in Orlando, Florida. It was the seventh Slammiversary PPV and celebrated the nine years of TNA Wrestling.

The main event of Slammiversary IX was a little different to previous years, rather than have a King of the Mountain match (that was scrapped in 2009) or have a TNA World Heavyweight Championship match (like last year) TNA had a number one contenders match between Jeff Jarrett and Kurt Angle. But it is safe to say that this match had nothing to do with the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.

TNA Slammiversary VIII (2010)

For this year’s Slammiversary (2010) the event wasn’t named after the year but the anniversary which it marked for TNA. This wasn’t the only change which we saw either as the format of the show changed too. It also marked the first time that the Slammiversary Pay per View had forgone its trademark King of the Mountain Match, instead opting for a Singles Match for the TNA Heavyweight Championship of the World. The card featured 9 matches with 3 titles on the line.

TNA Slammiversary 2009

Written by: Greg Ledson

Slammiversary 2009 took place on June 21, 2009 at The Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan. It was the fifth Slammiversary in TNA history and celebrated the seventh anniversary of the promotion.

Slammiversary 2009 was very special as it was the first Slammiversary to feature two separate King of the Mountain matches. One was as always the main event of the evening for the TNA Heavyweight Championship, but also the opening match of the evening was a King of the Mountain match for the X Division Championship.

TNA Slammiversary 2008

Slammiversary 2008 had the Tagline of “Shake… Rattle… and Roll!” and took place in Southaven, Mississippi. The event marked the fourth event with the Slammiversary name and celebrated six years of TNA. This show featured seven matches with three titles on the line.

TNA Slammiversary 2007

Written by: Greg Ledson

Slammiversary 2007 was the third Slammiversary PPV in TNA’s five year history so was tagged ‘Slammiversary V’ (V meaning five), with the tag line ‘Massacre in Music City’ The show took place on June 17, at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. The PPV card was a lot more stacked than previous Slammiversary PPVs with a scheduled ten matches rather than the usual seven or eight.

TNA Slammiversary 2006

Slammiversary 2006 was held in front of a 900 strong crowd (125 up from the previous year) within the Impact! Zone in Orlando, Florida. It was the second event under the Slammiversary name and celebrated the fourth year of TNA. Featuring seven matches there were two titles on the line within the show, and this was the very first Slammiversary to feature a match in the preshow. That match was Team Canada (Eric Young and A-1) vs. The Naturals (Andy Douglas and Chase Stevens) which Team Canada won in just over 2 minutes.

TNA Slammiversary 2005

Written by Greg Ledson

With the upcoming TNA event ‘Slammiversary X’ only a few days away, I thought it would be interesting to take a look back at previous Slammiversary’s in TNA history.

The first Slammiversary PPV was held on June 19, 2005 at the TNA Impact Zone in Orlando, Florida. In case you didn’t know although this years Slammiversary is being billed as ‘Slammiversary X’ the ‘X’ meaning 10, this is not the tenth anniversary of Slammiversary it is the tenth anniversary of TNA.

TNA Hall of Fame

I think that we all probably know by now that, after 10 fantastic years, TNA has decided to start its own Hall of Fame. We will find out who the first ever inductee is when it is announced at Slammiversary X.

When the news was announced, Dixie Carter said “This 10 year milestone is an incredible achievement for TNA, in honour of that we felt it was time to begin recognizing the contributions of those who have made the greatest impact on our success."

Impact Wrestling: Open Fight Night - 27th May 2012

The second Open Fight Night (OFN) opened with a recap of the stories which we have seen recently including AJ’s secret and the extra dirt which was dished on his inappropriate relationship with Dixie Carter, Joseph Park’s mission to find Abyss and Bully Ray’s threat to the lawyer.

Friday, 1 June 2012

Impact Wrestling - 20th May 2012

The show opened with clips of what had happened previously on Impact Wrestling. Highlights being: Abyss going missing, AJ’s secret, the question of ‘who is up as leader of the Selfish Generation?’ and the road to Slammiversary X.

TNA Presents Sacrifice 2012

The show opened with Ref, Earl Hebner knocking on a door to collect the World Heavyweight Championship title belt from Bobby Roode so that it could be hung up in the air ready for tonight’s main event. Still annoyed at Hulk Hogan for allowing RVD to pick the stipulation for his title shot, Roode rambled on at Earl and asked why Hogan himself didn’t go to collect his belt for the match which he didn’t want. He handed the belt over to Hebner and told him to go hang it up before stating that he’ll have it back real soon.

Brooke Hogan Joins Impact Wrestling

Brooke Hogan Joins Impact

Fans reacted to the news earlier on today as Dixie Carter tweeted that, the daughter of Impact Wrestling’s General Manager, recording artist and TV personality Brooke Hogan is joining Impact Wrestling as the Executive in Charge of the Knockouts. If you read my piece on Hogan and Bischoff vs. Steiner you will have already seen that Steiner revealed that Brooke had been brought in to the company but he didn’t say in what capacity.

Hulk Hogan and Eric Bi****ff vs. Scott Steiner

The long running fight between Hogan, Bischoff and Steiner is about to become more serious as the General Manager of Impact Wrestling, took to Twitter this morning to talk about getting his personal lawyers involved in the situation.

This feud has been going on for quite some time now and if you look back through each of the men’s Twitter accounts at a glance it would appear that they are all as bad as each other. We of course don’t know how deep the rivalry goes and can only see what each of them wants us to see.

TNA's Steel Cage is to come to the UK

SoCal Val and Mr Anderson made the big announcement which fans from the UK and Ireland have been waiting for on Sunday March 13th 2012’s episode of Impact Wrestling. TNA’s Lockdown cage is set to go on a vacation in January 2013 as it will leave America for the first time ever.

AJ’s Secret is Revealed on Impact Wrestling

We’ve finally been let in on the secret which Christopher Daniels and Kazarian have been blackmailing AJ Styles with for what seems like an age. We all know that Daniels and AJ haven’t seen eye to eye since Daniels decided to declare himself as the face of TNA and run with that title; but at the start of this story it seemed as though it was Kaz who Daniels had dirt on.

Impact Wrestling - 13th May 2012

The ‘go home’ show before we see Sacrifice on May 16th 2012 opened with a recap of Rob Van Dam and Bobby Roode picking each other’s opponents last week. We saw highlights from both of their matches including Roode hitting Hardy with his belt during the Hardy vs. RVD match.
